Before we check let me discuss the importance of “two-factor authentication”, “unrecognized device login alerts” and how they work.

Two-factor authentication

It acts as a secondary layer of security for your account. In addition to your password a security code is needed to login.

An individual that knows your password let’s say a hacker will not be able to login your account in a different device without the security code.

Enabling two-factor authentication

You can enable two-factor authentication using Facebook mobile app. Alternatively, you can also use a browser to turn it on.

You have two choices, text message and authenticator app. If you choose text message you will need your mobile phone number.

If you choose authenticator app you will need Facebook app installed on your mobile device. You can do it on both Android and iOS.

You can turn on both “text message” and authenticator app” at the same time.

How two-factor authentication works

If you are going to login in a new device you will be asked for a 6-digit authentication code after you entered your password.

If you chose text message it will be sent to your mobile phone number. If you chose authenticator app you can get the 6-digit code on your Facebook app.

Authenticator app will be your primary authentication method if you turned-on both “text message” and “authenticator app

Unrecognized device login alerts

It is a security feature of Facebook that sends you an email informing you that your account has been logged-in from a new device.

You will have the option to change your password by clicking a link within the email.

Enabling unrecognized device login alerts

You can enable the alert in the settings using Facebook mobile app. Alternatively, you can also use a browser to turn it on.

How to check the devices that used to login your Facebook account

You can check the devices that used to login your account both on Facebook app and in a browser. You just have to login then navigate to Settings -> Security and Login -> Where you’re logged-in.

You can examine all the devices that used to login your account if you saw something suspicious you can log them out by clicking or tapping logout.

Using two-factor authentication makes you feel intimidated at first but later on you will feel more secure and confident that no one is peeking at your account.

That’s if for now guys, it is better to be safe than sorry.
